Greenwich
Peninsula is home to the first low energy food store in Britain.
Sainsbury's (020 8305 2519) is 50% more efficient than a standard
supermarket and many of its design features may become commonplace
in supermarkets of the future. The store, open 24 hours Monday-Saturday
and 11am-5pm on Sundays, uses natural light and high levels of
insulation, in addition to passive ventilation and under-floor
heating systems.
Close to the village are a growing number of retail parks. Two
are within easy walking distance – Peninsula Park and Greenwich
Retail Park – which include a huge range of high street stores.
The new UCI cinema on Greenwich Peninsula (020 8853 3282) is the
first of its kind in Europe. The round 14 screen cinema uses new
air conditioning techniques which pre-cools auditoria according
to the number of seats sold. It screens current blockbuster releases,
as well as specialist art house movies. |
