On the peninsula, 50 acres of land has been developed as parkland, restoring a
sense of ecological balance to this once heavily polluted industrial site. The Homes
and Communities Agency, working with the Environment Agency, has really put
the 'green' in Greenwich.
This includes the Ecology Park with its two lakes and thriving wildlife population. Next
door is Southern Park, a tree-edged public amenity space for dog walking, playing or
just relaxing.
Nature is being given a helping hand. Enough turf has been laid to cover 20 football
pitches. Thousands of trees and shrubs have been planted and meadow grass has
been sown and is cut using mowing patterns that help promote wildlife.
