The area around Greenwich, which becomes a Royal Borough in 2012, is rich in
history and culture, ranging from the meridian line at the Royal Observatory to the
Cutty Sark (due for reopening in Spring 2012) and the Old Royal Naval College
(now used primarily as a campus for the University of Greenwich and Trinity College
of Music).
The Old Naval College, designed by Sir Christopher Wren, is widely
considered an architectural masterpiece and forms the centrepiece of Maritime
Greenwich, a World Heritage Site. Greenwich is also home to one of London's best
markets and also a number of the capital's best loved green open spaces, such as
Greenwich Royal Park and Blackheath Common.
