The two-form Millennium Primary School and integrated GP practice Health Centre,
housed within 'state-of-the-art' facilities designed by Edward Cullinan Architects, was
built by the Homes and Communities Agency (formerly English Partnerships).
Greenwich Peninsula is also home to the first low energy food store in Britain.
Sainsbury's is 50% more efficient than a standard supermarket and many of its
design features are becoming commonplace in new supermarkets. The store, open
24 hours Monday-Saturday and 11am-5pm on Sundays, uses natural light and high
levels of insulation, in addition to passive ventilation and under-floor heating systems.
Close to the village are a growing number of retail parks. Two are within easy walking
distance – Peninsula Park and Greenwich Retail Park – which include a huge range
of high street stores.
The UCI cinema on Greenwich Peninsula was the first of its kind in Europe. The
round 14 screen cinema uses air conditioning techniques which pre-cools auditoria
according to the number of seats sold. It screens current blockbuster releases, as
well as specialist art house movies.
